Optical Music Recognition (OMR), sometimes also called musical score recognition or simply score recognition, is the process of automatically extracting musical meaning from a printed musical score. Music notation provides a rich description of the composer’s ideas, but ultimately sheet music is open to some degree of interpretation by performers. Performance considerations aside, the advantages of a computerised representation of a musical score are numerous. These include:
